Google hit with record EU fine over Shopping service

Google has been fined 2.42bn euros ($2.7bn; £2.1bn) by the European Commission after it ruled the company had abused its power by promoting its own shopping comparison service at the top of search results.

The amount is the regulator's largest penalty to date against a company accused of distorting the market.

The ruling also orders Google to end its anti-competitive practices within 90 days or face a further penalty.
The US firm said it may appeal.

WhatsApp rises as a force in news media

WhatsApp is becoming one of the prevailing ways people discover and discuss news, according to a study.

But use of the messaging app appears to vary widely between countries.
In Malaysia, more than 50% of those surveyed said they used WhatsApp for news at least once a week. But in the US, the figure was only 3%, and in the UK it was 5%.
The Digital News Report also indicates the Brexit debate has led to growing mistrust of the UK's media.
It said only 43% of respondents declared that the news could be trusted - down from 50% last year - with the BBC in particular criticised for having both a pro-EU bias and failing to expose the "distortions" of the leave campaign.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 to go on sale today on Flipkart

 NEW DELHI: Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi launched its Redmi Note 4 smartphone in India in January this year. The device comes with a starting price tag of Rs 9,999 and will go on sale on Flipkart today (June 21) at 12pm. As part of the sale, the company is also offering various offers to the buyers of Redmi Note 4.

 Users can buy the smartphone under EMI plans starting at Rs 631 per month (for 24 months @ 15% pa). Some of the banks supported are Axis Bank, Citi Bank, HDFC Bank, HSBC, ICICI Bank, Induslnd Bank, Kotak Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and State Bank of India. There is also 5% discount for those using Axis Bank Buzz Credit Cards to buy the device.

1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots setup across Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Telangana government today launched the 'Hyderabad City Wi-Fi' project, providing the wireless networking technology at over 1,000 public places in the city.

 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor B Rammohan, who launched the project, said it will eventually cover around 3,000 hotspots in the city.

Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said 3,000 public locations were identified in the city. The network has now been installed at 1,000 hotspots with an assured bandwidth of 5-10 Mbps offering 30 minutes of free wi-fi. The remaining 2,000 places will be covered in next three months.

हाथ-पैर बांध कर बेहद ही खौफनाक तरीके से लड़की को जला दिया जिंदा

नई दिल्ली: बिहार में एक दिल दहला देने वाला मामला देखने को मिला जहां बोचहा गांव के दो युवकों ने नौंवी कक्षा आकांक्षा की एक छात्रा के हाथ-पैर बांध कर जिंदा जला दिया। मंगलवार की रात छात्रा का पटना के निजी अस्पताल में इलाज के दौरान मौत हो गई।

आरोपियों की तलाश में जुटी हुई है पुलिस
बताया जा रहा है कि सुनील कुमार का अपने पड़ोसी नंदू राय के साथ विवाद चल रहा था। विवाद के क्रम में ही नंदू राय के पुत्र अमित कुमार ने घर में आकांक्षा को अकेला पा कर उसके हाथ-पैर बांध कर और मिट्टी तेल छिड़क कर उसे जिंदा जला दिया। आकांक्षा के परिजनों ने बताया कि गांव की ही एक लड़की को लेकर आरोपी अमित कुछ दिन पूर्व लेकर भाग गया था, और इस मामले को लेकर उन्होंने इसका विरोध किया था। इसी को लेकर गुस्साये आरोपी ने घटना को अंजाम दिया है। पुलिस अब लड़की के शव को पोस्टमार्टम के लिए भेज आरोपियों की तलाश में जुटी हुई है।
